Teenage Girl Sexually Assaulted On Bus Near Wandsworth Park

CCTV images have been released following a sexual assault on a teenage girl on a bus near Wandsworth Park.

They show a man police wish to trace wish to trace in connection with the assault which took place at around 3.25pm on Wednesday, 2 January.

The 16-year-old victim travelled on the top deck of a route 270 bus, travelling from Wandsworth Park towards Wandsworth having departed from Putney Bridge station. She sat on the right hand side of the bus, listening to music on her headphones.

She noticed a man as he came up the stairs; he turned his head and then opened his mouth and licked his lips in a suggestive manner. She was intimidated by these actions and tried to ignore him. He moved closer to her and continued to stare at her. The man then sat in front of the victim and turned to face her, leaning over the back of his seat. He then sexually assaulted her.

The girl became very upset and shouted for him to stop touching her. Another passenger intervened. She ran down the stairs and was comforted by another passenger who also called the police. The driver stopped the bus and the man ran away in the direction of Wandsworth Plain.

He is described as a black man, aged between 35 and 43, about 5ft 10ins tall with a bald head and had a large gap between his front teeth. He spoke with an American accent and wore a sleeveless red puffa vest and hat.

Police Constable Leanne Bridgeman, from the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command, said: “This incident has left the victim feeling very frightened and violated. I ask anyone who can help to identify this man to contact us immediately.”
