Police ask for witnesses to come forward

Officers investigating the death of a 45 year old man in Wandsworth over the weekend are appealing for any witnesses who may have been in the area between 19.00 on Friday 29 September and 17.00 the following day, Saturday 30 September.

Officers attended an address on Magdalen Road, SW18 around 17.00 on Saturday 30 September following reports of an insecure property. Inside, they found the body of the victim in a downstairs room. He had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe they know the identity of the dead man but await formal identification. A post mortem was due to take place St George's Hospital, Tooting on the afternoon of Monday 2 October. The results are not available as yet. An inquest will be opened and adjourned in due course.

The death is being investigated by the MPS Specialist Crime Directorate, based at Sutton. DCI Steve Richardson said: "We know that the dead man had been with a colleague at the house until early evening of 29.9.06, but I am keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area and seen or heard anything suspicious between that time and when his body was discovered by officers the following day.

"At this stage, we are keeping an open mind as to the motive but there is no indication that it was a burglary."

No weapon has been recovered. Enquiries continue and there have been no arrests.
