following stabbing of a 16 year old whilst at school in April this year
In June the entire Wandsworth Police Schools Team attended Salesian college to run a screening arch - Screening arches are used to detect items such as knives and other objects that could be used as weapons.
Salesian requested the screening arch and gave the school’s team it’s full support showing that they are being proactive in the fight against knife crime and sending a positive message to its students about keeping them safe whilst they are in school.
Some 600 students passed through the two arches, set up at the main entrance to the school. They then had their bags checked and preceded to class. The whole process ran extremely quickly and without incident and even the head teacher, Mr McCann, commented on how professional the officers were.
The students also reacted positively to being screened, cooperating fully with officers and teaching staff and even making jokes with some of the PCSOs who were ushering them through.
you would like to reinforce message that ‘a place of learning should be a place of safety’ and show students and parents that you are being positive and proactive in relation to weapons, please contact PC Vic Zeal on 020 8247 8285 about setting up a screening arch at your school/college.
