Crack House Closure on Daphne Street

Police raid property after reports of disorder and nuisance

Acting on information was that an address in Daphne Street SW18 was concerned in the use and supply of class A drugs police have raided the property. It was also linked to disorder and nuisance and was causing the lives of those living in the vicinity a misery.

On the 23 July 2008 Wandsworth Common Safer Neighbourhoods Team executed a drugs search warrant at the address with the assistance of officers from Wandsworth Crime Squad and officers from the Territorial Support Group.

No arrests were made but it was clear that the address was concerned in the use of Class A drugs. A Closure Notice under Sec 1 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 was served at the address effectively temporarily closing the address subject to a court hearing within 48hrs and in conjunction with Servite Houses caused the address to be secured preventing anyone from gaining entry.

The case was presented at South Western Magistrates Court on the 24th July and was granted a Closure Order under Sec 2 of the ASB Act 2003 effectively closing the address for three months.

Sgt Ben Bond said, ‘This is an excellent example of partnership working at it's best, sending out a clear message that drugs and the crime and disorder they cause will not be tolerated in our Neighbourhoods.’

Safer Neighbourhoods Team Inspector, Lysander Strong said, 'This is a superb example of partners working together to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour. The collective efforts, and joint evidence, of Servite Houses, Police, Wandsworth Borough Council and the local community have ensured that a crime generator was nipped in the bud. To my knowledge this is the first 'Crack House Closure Order' on the Borough for some time. ‘
