Police at Wandsworth are investigating a violent robbery that occurred in Streatham Cemetery Garratt Lane SW17 at 12 noon on 11th August 2010.

The 72 year old victim had been attending to the grave of her late parents before washing her hands alone in the cemetery wash room.

The suspect burst into the wash room, pushed the victim to the chest and grabbed her bag before making good his escape. The stolen property was a green canvas shopping bag.

The victim suffered a broken arm and bruising to the head and remained in hospital overnight.
The suspect was seen to run off towards the rear of the cemetery and the Aboyne Estate. It is believed he had been loitering for some time in the cemetery before the attack. He is described as white, aged 18-21 between 5'6 and 5'10 of slim build with fair hair. He was wearing a white T Shirt and grey jogging bottoms with a distinctive dirty white scarf over his face.

DS Steve Davidsen said
‘This was a cowardly attack on a defenceless pensioner in the cemetery where she should feel safe and be allowed to mourn her parents in peace. I would urge anyone that had been in the vicinity of the cemetery yesterday morning or on the Aboyne Estate to try and remember if they saw this suspect either before or after the attack.’
