A new mural has been unveiled in the Wandsworth Southside shopping centre to highlight the steps the centre says it is taking towards reducing its carbon footprint.

The mural was hand-painted by art-K visual artists Laura and Ayseli. It features a collage of six paintings to illustrate Southside Shopping Centre's actions towards cutting down its carbon emissions.

Southside recently reopened its doors after a £1bn regeneration programme. As part of this initiative, the centre encourages visitors to get there on foot or by bicycle. Additionally, it says has implemented changes to increase waste recycling, generate solar power, and significantly cut its overall water usage.

Emily Harper Managing Director of art-K, which runs children’s art classes, said, "We are so proud of our mural at Wandsworth Southside Shopping Centre. We feel it is vital to help communities understand the steps their local businesses are taking to improve the environment. We believe our talented visual artists Laura and Ayseli have done a fantastic job of illustrating the important work Southside is undertaking to help the environment through their mural.”

art-K visual artist Laura said, "The Southside mural was an exciting and fun project to work on. The Southside centre staff wanted a bright and bold colour scheme influenced by nature, and I feel we've pulled out all of the stops on this one!"
