Cygnet Players Present... Top Hat

A stage production of one of the greatest dance musicals ever

Following its successful West End run and UK tour, Wandsworth-based Cygnet Players theatre group are thrilled to be one of the first amateur companies to bring to the stage one of the greatest dance musicals of all time, Top Hat.

Top Hat brings together the glamour of Hollywood's golden age, with the glorious, tap-dancing magic of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. This triple Olivier award-winning show is packed full of Irving Berlin's greatest hits including Cheek to Cheek, White Tie and Tails, Let's Face the Music and Dance, and Puttin' on the Ritz.

It tells the story of Broadway sensation, Jerry Travers, who dances his way across Europe to win the heart of society girl, Dale Tremont. An uplifting romantic comedy, celebrating 1930s song, style and romance, Top Hat dazzles with music, dancing, and a love story to set pulses racing.

Top Hat is based on the RKO Motion Picture of the same name, which was released in 1935 and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. Cygnet Players’ production is directed by Stuart Burrows, with Sam Fisher as musical director and Kim Findlay as choreographer.

“The film of Top Hat was RKO’s biggest smash of the 30s at the box office and the first time that Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers had a movie written specifically for them”, says Stuart. “It began a series of movie musicals featuring this classic pairing which would be enjoyed by filmgoers for generations to come.”

“I’ve been blessed to be able to work alongside Kim Findlay and Sam Fisher, our incredible and truly dedicated choreographer and musical director, to create the production. My sincere thanks must go to them and our talented cast and production team in the wings for working so hard on this show.”

The production runs from Wednesday 31 January to Saturday 3 February at the London Oratory School Theatre, Seagrave Road, Fulham, SW6 1RX. Performances are nightly at 7.30pm with a 2.00pm Saturday matinee.

Tickets are £18 (£15 concessions) and can be bought from the Cygnet Players box office on 07941 448689, via cygnetplayers.com/box-office or by emailing cygnetsboxoffice@gmail.com.
