Putney Town Centre Partnership has teamed up with experts from GLE oneLondon .

Businesses are invited to attend a free seminar at St Mary’s Church, Putney High Street. The event will take place at 5.45 pm, Monday, 28 January 2009. Presentations and discussions will last until 7.30 pm.

The oneLondon team will provide on-going mentoring and support to interested traders. They can visit businesses on an individual basis to analyse the potential for improvement, returning at a later date to check on progress.

The service aims to provide the skills necessary to overcome the credit crunch. The main topics will include:

· Reducing overheads
· Improving business efficiency
· Effective marketing
· Looking after existing customers
· How to cope with the post-Christmas slowdown

Wandsworth’s regeneration spokesman, Cllr James Cousins, explains that the PTCP’s event is working alongside several other initiatives to support Wandsworth’s economy and attract further investment in the borough.

“This scheme brings free expert advice to the Putney business community. We hope that many of our local traders come and receive the full benefits of oneLondon’s guidance.

“Wandsworth is better placed than most other boroughs in these tough economic conditions. This initiative is part of the council’s drive to keep our economy ahead of the London market and to stimulate inward investment – the Wandsworth ‘best buys’ campaign.

“We have expanded our Town Centre Improvement Scheme offering grants and interest-free loans to small businesses and are encouraging eligible traders to claim business rate relief from central government.

“We are also promoting the borough’s long-term potential to attract developers to our investment centres. Wandsworth town centre is benefiting from a £1 bn private sector cash injection and the US Embassy’s plans to move to Nine Elms in Battersea has sparked worldwide interested in the area.

“This best buys campaign, combined with our low council tax, central location and highly trained workforce means Wandsworth is well placed to weather the worst of the economic downturn.”
