New Culture Cafe in Wandsworth Park

gets thumbs up from local Mum....

It is such an inspired piece of local planning -- having noticed no one was bowling anymore, the council has remodelled the pavilion and it now houses the Culture Café, a new venture by a group of fantastic women who used to run the café at Tooting Bec Lido.

Offering as much organic food as possible the café serves a much wider range of food than one might have expected in the middle of the park, including homemade soups, salads, and sandwiches, and full breakfasts along with coffee, tea, and cakes (“Make sure to mention the cookies, Mummy”).

They plan to be open from 8 am until it gets dark, seven days a week, and have all the sorts of things a park café should have (changing table, bowl of water for dogs, etc). There is seating inside and out, and according to Freedom, one of the women who runs it, they are going to extend the paving outside soon for more seating.

Future plans include jazz afternoons, with musicians jamming on the relaid lawn, art shows by students from the Putney College of Art, and offering picnic hampers and blankets. They are really interested in getting involved with the neighborhood, and in any ideas and suggestions people might have.

I was so impressed when we went there, especially by the women who run it because they've obviously put heart and soul and life savings into it! And it must be such a hard time to get going (though the hot chocolate made the playground much more bearable!)...
