Get to Know Your Health

Pop Up Shop opens in Southside Shopping Centre

Nurses Eddy and Sheila there to help you

Everyone is welcome to pop in to the shop, run by the council’s public health team, which will be open from 9am-7.30pm Monday to Friday, 9am-5.30pm on Saturdays and 11am to 4.30pm on Sundays.

Specialist nurses will be on hand to give advice and health check-ups, including blood sugar and blood pressure checks and BMI measuring. All the checks are quick, confidential and completely free. No appointment is necessary, so people can get this done quickly and simply while they shop.

You will also be able to get free information and advice on the signs and symptoms of diabetes and cancer, information on sexual health and much more.

Nurses Eddy and Sheila, who have staffed the previous three council health pop-up shops, will be encouraging residents to make the most of the wide range of support offered by Wandsworth Council, such as health trainers, stop smoking support, weight management services and exercise taster sessions.

The council’s health spokesman Cllr Jim Maddan said, “This year’s shop builds upon the success of the Get to Know Cancer pop-up shop we have run for the past three years. We have found it to be an excellent way of encouraging people to get their health checked because rather than having to make a trip to their GP they can literally pop-up while they’re out shopping.

“This year we want to extend the shop to all health issues. Thanks to the generous donation of a unit from Southside, we can be in the heart of Wandsworth’s busy shopping centre and I would urge everyone to pop in, get checked out, have a chat with our friendly nurses and find out about the free support on offer in the borough.”
