Wandsworth will help with your Big Spring Clean
Wandsworth residents are being invited to take part in the borough's "Big Spring Clean" next week and get rid of anything that's cluttering up their homes and gardens.
Between Monday, March 6 and Saturday, March 11, the council will be collecting all unwanted bulky items free of charge.
Council refuse collectors will be picking up a glut of unwanted household items like tables, chairs, mattresses and old wardrobes. Collections will also be made of garden refuse as long as it is properly bagged up.
Residents can leave bags of rubbish in front gardens for collection as usual while any larger items should be placed on the pavement, but without causing an obstruction for pedestrians.
Any items for collection should be put out the night before or early on the morning of normal rubbish collection days, as the collections will begin at 6am.
People who live in blocks of flats or properties where rubbish is normally collected in communal bins will need to book a free collection in advance by calling (020) 8871 8558.
The council is also urging people to think about whether these unwanted items could be recycled. If you have anything that can be used again, like good quality furniture and bric-a-brac, please take them to your nearest charity shop. Local recycling banks cans also be used for clothes, shoes and books. To find your nearest site visit www.wandsworth.gov.uk/recycling
There are some items that cannot be collected during Big Spring Clean week. These are:
• Anything that cannot be lifted by two people
• Bricks, concrete or any other building materials
• Garden soil, stones or rubbish
• Kitchen or bathroom units
• Paint, oil or household chemicals
• Any waste from businesses
