Rugrats join in Wandsworth Christmas Lights ceremony

Children's TV favourites, The Rugrats, left the comfort of their sandpit and set off for a new adventure when they visited Wandsworth as part of the Christmas Lights ceremony.

Cartoon characters, Tommy, his best friend, Chuckie and his older cousin, Angelica, took part in a special ceremony when the Mayor of Wandsworth, Cllr Leslie McDonnell, officially switched on the Christmas lights in Wandsworth Town Centre.

During the day the Wandsworth Shopping Centre was bursting at the seams with activity. Heart FM Radio was on site to support the event, providing musical entertainment and handing out balloons and other freebies. Young fans were able to meet and have their photographs taken with the Rugrats as well as taking part in a competition.

Competition organisers placed a total of ten Rugrats posters in shops throughout the Wandsworth Shopping Centre and participants aged under 11 were then asked to identify the stores, which displayed the posters. Winning entries were then entered into a prize draw.

The competition winner was announced as Jasmyn Cunningham who received a Nintendo Gameboy and a copy of the Rugrats latest book. Competition runners up were Ben Carvell who received a trilogy of Rugrats videos and a copy of their book, and Anais Silk who received a copy of the Rugrats video and books.

The Christmas lights, which adorn up to 16 lampposts in Garratt Lane and along Wandsworth High Street, were switched on at 4.30pm followed by a short firework display.
