Wandsworth Man Charged With Parsons Green Murder Pleads Not Guilty

One of the two males who were charged with the murder of Omid Saidy in Parsons Green in October is from Wandsworth.

Shafiq Smith, 18, of Brudenell Road pleaded not guilty to murder, attempted murder and threatening a person with a bladed or pointed article in a public place at the Old Bailey on Tuesday (January 9th).

On the same day at the same court, a 17-year-old boy pleaded not guilty to murder and threatening a person with a blade/sharply pointed article in a public place.

Both will appear at the Old Bailey for trial on Monday 16th April.

Police were called on Monday 16 October last year at 7.37pm following reports of three males stabbed in the area surrounding Parsons Green Tube Station. Omid Saidy from Fulham was pronounced dead at the scene in Parsons Green Lane an hour later at 8.30pm. Police say he had chased two people in the direction of Beaconsfield Walk after which he was stabbed.

Police believe that Omid confronted a drug dealer and another man who was with him. 

Omid chased the two suspects in the direction of Beaconsfield Walk. During the case he caught up with the suspects and was fatally stabbed. 

A second 18-year-old man, who is a friend of the deceased, was also stabbed when he came to Omid's aid.
