Two people rescued from first floor

Four fire engines were needed to deal with a house fire in Haldon Road, Wandsworth last night.

Two occupants were lead to safety from the blaze in the terrace, which was contained to one room at the back of the property.

Smoke billowed out from the rear of the house for some time after the alarm was raised at just before 11pm.

Residents from the street gathered near the scene as the firefighters dealt with the blaze. No ambulances were necessary at the scene, but one onlooker described the appearance of four fire engines in the narrow street as, "Quite a sight. We are all just relieved that everyone is OK and are very impressed with how calmly the fire fighters have dealt with the emergency."
