New Wandsworth Council Leader Announced


Ravi Govindia to replace Edward Lister

Conservative councillors have chosen Ravi Govindia to be the new Leader of Wandsworth Council.

Cllr Govindia will replace Edward Lister when he steps down to take up his new role as Deputy Mayor of London alongside Boris Johnson. Mr Govindia will formally take over as Leader on May 18th.

Born in Jinja, Uganda, Ravi Govindia arrived in the UK aged seventeen following General Idi Amin's expulsion of Ugandan Asians.

First elected to the Council in 1982, he has chaired several committees during his career including leisure and amenity services, technical services and planning.

He is currently Cabinet member for Stategic planning and Transportation.
