Raising funds for Battersea Arts Centre
The Northcote Road summer fete is back again this July and promising plenty of the usual activities. There will be ping pong tables, the Wimbledon Men’s Final on a giant screen, two pop-up markets, a live entertainment stage and three fairground rides,as well as the food and drink stalls. The whole road will be closed to traffic all day for the event - no parking and no buses - providing the safest environment for residents, families, visitors, stalls and activities.
This year the event will raise funds for Battersea Arts Centre which recently suffered significant fire damage.
Food, Drink and Shopping
A large selection of produce will be on offer
from gourmet hotdogs and burgers, to ice-cream and traditional French crepes. Quench your thirst with summer favourites such as Pimms, local ales, and champagne - served by the many eateries and drinking spots on Northcote Road, as well as visiting strJuly 1, 2015visiting pop-up market with over 100 visiting stalls offering goods such as handmade silver jewellery, children’s clothes, homewares and accessories.
Fairground Rides
Three children’s fairground rides will once again take position along the road, including the classic spinning teacups and a traditional chair-o-planes merry go round. The third fairground ride is firm Fete favourite - the AstroGlide, a 70ft long slide with three lanes. Riders on this mega slide will be given a hessian sack to slide down (varying speeds depending on which lane you choose - greased or ungreased!) before landing on the carpet at the bottom.
Entertainment - Tennis, Dance, Music, Yoga and Ping Pong
All the action from SW19 will be shown on a huge 6m x 4m screen in the middle of the event. The entrance to Bennerley Road will be covered in astroturf so you can sit, relax, and watch the Wimbledon Men’s Final. The live entertainment stage will feature dance and musical performances from local groups. Start the day with relaxing yoga from Sweaty Betty, and end with headline act, the Lavender Hillbillies. Free-to-use ping pong tables will be positioned at intervals up the street.
Charity and Community
This year’s official charity partner for the Fete is Battersea Arts Centre. The Northcote Road Business Network is working to raise awareness and funds for this local charity who suffered a large fire in the building on Lavender Hill, earlier this year. Find them at the fete in Chatham Hall where you can play on a tombola, meet the children’s entertainer Eddie, have your face painted and bounce on the big bouncy castle. Proceeds of these activities will go to Battersea Arts Centre.
The event is organised by The Northcote Business Network, led by Chairman Jonathan Dyson (Hamptons International). “It's a fun way to thank the community for supporting the street and a great way to invite new people to visit this special south London shopping street,” says Jonathan. It is also supported by the Clapham Junction Town Centre Partnership and Wandsworth Council. Principal sponsors are Estbury Basements and Sash Windows London.
