Today (May 11th) he tweeted his resignation letter to interim Labour leader Harriet Harman explaining that, "After a period of reflection I have decided that I should step down from serving in the Shadow Cabinet." For the full exchange see here

Mrs Harman thanked him for his work as Shadow Justice Secretary and Shadow Minister for London and wished him luck in his future endeavours, further fuelling speculation that Mr Khan will run as a London Mayoral candidate.

Sadiq was elected Labour MP for Tooting in 2005 and re-elected in 2010. He lives in the borough and was a councillor for over a decade before being elected local MP. He has served as Shadow Lord Chancellor as well as Shadow Secretary of State for Justice and, from 2013, Shadow Minster for London.

The selection contest for the 2016 Mayoral battle officially begins this Wednesday.
