It's... Snowtime!

Wandsworth's wintry wonderland brought delight but also chaos

A swathe of snow covered Wandsworth this morning (28 February) giving delight to anyone who doesn’t need to travel and a huge headache to those who do.

The Met Office issued an amber warning which suggests there is a risk to life and property for areas across the UK including London.

As snow started falling again in the afternoon, the temperature was forecast to fall to minus 4 deg c overnight. The warnings for Wandsworth were reduced to yellow, with yellow warnings for snow, wind and ice until Saturday.

You can get the latest weather news on the London Snow Twitter feed and news of travel disruption at TfL travel alert.

Two signal failures on London Underground in the west and south west of London brought chaos to local services this morning. There were severe delays between Wimbledon and Earls Court due to a signal failure caused by ice and snow. Another signal failure also caused delays on the Piccadilly Line.

The Richmond branch of the District Line was shut for a time between Richmond and Turnham Green and southbound trains from Parsons Green on the Wimbledon Line were stopped briefly this afternoon.

As ever we would be delighted to receive your photos of snow scenes at Wandsworthsw18.com and will publish as many as we can. Please send them through to editor@wandsworthsw18.com.
