Fire Guts Tower Block Flat As Man Falls Nine Floors


Cause of blaze unknown as falling man is hospitalised

Firefighters were called to a fire in a tower block on Linstead Way in Southfields at the weekend.
 
The fire badly damaged a flat on the ninth floor of the 15 storey building and a man was found with serious injuries after falling from a balcony at the address before the Brigade arrived. He was treated at the scene by London Air Ambulance and London Ambulance Service crews before being taken to hospital.

A further 200 people left the block and there were no reports of any other injuries.
 
Six fire engines and around 35 firefighters and officers from Wandsworth, Wimbledon, Fulham, Battersea, Tooting and Hammersmith fire stations attended the incident.
 
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The flats are one of over 150 within London that have been involved in a trial partnership between London Fire Brigadeand Local Authority Housing Providers to provide a Premises Information Plate which gives first arriving fire crews building information to improve speed of fire attack and therefore reduce damage and disruption.
