St Michael's In Wandsworth Gets An Upgrade Thanks To Community Fund

St Michael’s Community Centre has had a revamp and been officially reopened thanks to a grant from the Wandsworth Local Fund.

The Wandsworth Local Fund (WLF) is a levy that the council makes on developers to pay for the community infrastructure needed to support growth in the borough. Residents are encouraged to bring ideas for neighbourhood improvements to their ward councillors to be considered for funding, which must meet the criteria based on priorities set by local people.

The grant to St Michael’s has meant the lower hall has been extensively renovated and can continue to host a day centre for elderly residents four days a week. The centre is run by St Michael’s Church in partnership with the charity Regenerate RISE. If you are interested in attending call (020) 7228 0245

Other community work carried out from the centre in Cobham Close off Bolingbroke Grove, includes the provision of hot meals, company and activities for older people, outreach work, and a project delivering dressing gowns to older people who need them at St George’s Hospital. It is also available for hire by community groups. Find out more at www.stmichaelsbattersea.org

The Rev Tiffany-Alice Ewins, Priest in Charge, said, “The Wandsworth Local Fund has been gamechanging for us and has enabled us to continue to help members of our community. The grants team made it as easy as possible to apply and helped us manage the project.”

Other work funded by the WLF this year has included playground upgrades, new streetlights, a major road and pavement resurfacing and repainting Earlsfield Station Railway Bridge.  Find out how to apply at www.wandsworth.gov.uk/WLF.
