Cancer Patients Invited To Take Gardening Course

Boost your health and learn more about plants and herbs

Wandsworth people who are living with - or who have survived - cancer are invited to join an eight-week course at Thrive’s Battersea Park garden to help boost their health through gardening.

Thrive uses gardening to bring about positive changes in the lives of people living with disabilities or ill health, or who are isolated, disadvantaged or vulnerable. Social and therapeutic horticulture is the process of working with plants to improve physical and psychological health, an well as communication and thinking skills.

People on the course will also learn the skills they need to carry on gardening after the end of the course.

The Wandsworth Clinical Commissioning Group, made up of local GPs, is funding the programme. The CCG works with the council’s public health team to help residents reduce their risk of getting cancer and look at ways to help develop and improve services for people with cancer in Wandsworth.

The course starts this month, so get in touch as soon as possible if you wish to take part. You must live in Wandsworth and either have, or have previously suffered from, cancer.
