York's Road TWID Restaurant Honours Its Site's Operatic Legacy

TWID (That’s What I Do) Restaurant and Bar has now opened on York Road on the site of Little Bay, offering a concise menu of sharing plates and a drinks list including cocktails, all served in an theatrical dining room with live opera singers performing every evening.

Menus have been created by chef Tom Ilic of the Little Bay group, and feature a choice of four meat, four fish and four vegan or raw choices of plates ideal for sharing, all of which will change regularly, and all aimed at creating a relaxed dining experience.

The dishes include the likes of scallops served with kale, raspberries and hazelnuts; duck with pickled cauliflower, apples, raisins; or quinoa stuffed mushrooms served with a superfood salad, pine nuts and basil. Desserts are all raw, dairy free and gluten free, and include a take on strawberry cheesecake and dessert drinks such as Mozart Dry chocolate vodka.

The drinks menu has a selection of wines and beer (from the local Brixton Brewery) as well as a range of signature cocktails. Priced at £7, cocktails include a bitter-sweet Santiago (spiced and dark rum with red vermouth and Campari), and a Rossini featuring strawberry puree with a hint of rose water, topped with prosecco bubbles.

The dining room takes its cue from the live opera music with a theatre-inspired décor and booth seating. There are intimate tables ideal for dates, as well as larger tables for groups, either downstairs or up on one of the balconies, offering a view of the entertainment. Live opera singers perform daily at intervals between 7 and 10pm, with a DJ on deck from 10pm-12am.
