Wandsworth Town Library Opens Tomorrow

£1.5 million redevelopment includes study areas, free internet and wi-fi access

The new Wandsworth Town Library will open its doors to the public tomorrow morning (Tuesday 25th) at 9.30am. Based at 11 Garratt Lane, opposite Southside Shopping Centre, the building has completed a £1.5 million redevelopment project. An official launch event will take place in October with the London mayor Boris Johnson. The new facilities include self-service terminals, a dedicated study area, free internet and wi-fi access and a learning suite.

The library is stocked with a range of new fiction and non-fiction, books in community languages, talking books, newspapers and magazines.

For young people there is a children's library on the ground floor with story times for under-fives, baby rhyme time, homework help and holiday activities.

A separate area for teenagers has been created on the first floor.

Opening hours will be from 9.30am to 7pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 9.30am to 5pm on Friday and Saturday and from 1pm to 5pm on Sunday. Cllr Sarah McDermott, executive member for environment and leisure, said:
“We're delighted with the facilities and look forward to welcoming the first users through the doors.  The historic building is an inspiring setting and is going to become one of the busiest libraries in the borough.”
