Boris Bikes Arrive In Wandsworth

Most docking stations live from December 13th

Barclays Cycle Hire will ‘go live’ across north Wandsworth on Friday 13 December, 2013.

Almost all of Wandsworth’s brand new docking stations will go live on the 13th, with the remaining few up and running by spring next year.

They are spread out across parts of Battersea, Wandsworth Town and Putney, with a focus on transport hubs and town centres.

Cllr Russell King, Wandsworth Council transport spokesman, said: "The scheme will be a valuable  addition to our transport network which can help reduce traffic jams and ease overcrowding on our tubes, trains and buses. We see this extension as the first step towards complete borough-wide coverage. The job’s not done until every home is within easy reach of a Boris bike.

“The council is offering free cycling safety training to help more local people gain the skills and confidence they need to try cycle hire. We want as many residents as possible to benefit from this pollution free transport choice which is often the fastest and cheapest option for short journeys across town.”

Bringing the bike sharing scheme to Wandsworth is a central aim of the council's Travel Choices campaign which is focused on improving the range and quality of local transport services.
