Planning permission granted for security firm in Thornsett Road
Wandsworth Council’s planning applications committee has given the go-ahead for an empty warehouse and railway embankment building in Eralsfield's Thornsett Road to be replaced with a new development, which will become the new base of operations for Banham Security.
Committee chairman, Councillor Nick Cuff, said the arrival of the firm and its 300 employees would benefit local shops and businesses: “As well as bringing a vacant site back into use, this plan is expected to boost the local economy by bringing more people to the area – in turn resulting in an increase in people using its shops and services.
“Not only will it help revitalise Earlsfield with an exemplary new development, it could also act as a catalyst for further investment in this part of the borough.”
The scheme – designed by architects Allies and Morrison – involves the demolition of the existing warehouse and railway embankment building and the creation of a part four/part five storey building, along with renovation work to a two-storey building.
Banham is relocating from its current Vauxhall headquarters, which is needed by Transport for London as part of its plan to extend the Northern Line into the borough.
Go-ahead for the development comes soon after the council announced it was looking to create a new school on the Atheldene site in Garratt Lane, Earlsfield.
The council is also looking into the possibility of a wider regeneration scheme in this part of the borough.
This could include a new state-of-the-art community health centre to replace the Brocklebank health centre, while a number of nearby council-owned buildings that are empty and surplus to current needs could also be included in a regeneration scheme, bringing new homes, shops and jobs to the area.
