Hospital Thief Caught On CCTV

Thefts from St George's a priority for local police

Local police officers have arrested a 22 year old cleaner from St.George’s Hospita,l who was caught on CCTV stealing an item of clothing belonging to a colleague.

In December police received a complaint from a member of staff at the Hospital that her cardigan had gone missing from her Unit. Despite making enquiries with colleagues in case she had mislaid the item of clothing and placing posters within the unit asking for its return, the £160 cashmere cardigan failed to reappear and was suspected to have been stolen.

Police were subsequently informed and officers from Tooting Safer Neighbourhoods Team began an investigation into the theft.
On checking the CCTV a cleaner from the unit was identified as a suspect, having been seen removing the item of clothing from a prominent position within the unit.

Police officers arrested the cleaner who was subsequently charged on 6th March 2012 under the Theft Act in order to appear at South Western Magistrates Court at a later date.

PC Steve Dorrington from Tooting Safer Neighbourhoods Team said: “Thefts from St George's Hospital are a priority for the team; it is important that people visiting the hospital feel safe without the worry of having their belongings stolen. We will continue to conduct police operations within the hospital site.”
