MP Urges Schools To Take Part In Money Week

Aiming to improve pupils' financial skills, knowledge and confidence

Jane Ellison, MP for Wandsworth, Battersea and Balham, has called on local schools to take part in My Money Week
(3rd to th9 June), with the aim of improving young people’s financial skills, knowledge and confidence.

Every local primary and secondary school is being given the chance to take part in the initiative, which is backed by pfeg (Personal Finance Education Group) and Barclays.

There is the opportunity for special lessons, activities and debates in schools. Teachers can order a free Activity pack, which is designed to deliver creative financial resources and ideas on how to deliver financial education to young people. Visits from pfeg to schools can be arranged and students can also take part in the ‘A-Z of Money’, a national competition.

Jane Ellison said: “It has never been more important than now that students learn about how to manage money. Being confident and knowledgeable in handling money issues is vital for everyday life and having financial skills will set them up for their future careers . I would urge all schools to take advantage of the opportunity.”

Teachers can get more information and can pre-order their free My Money Week Activity Pack at www.pfeg.org/mymoneyweek
