Local MP Made Transport Secretary

Justine Greening Promoted following Liam Fox resignation

Justine Greening MP has been made Transport Secretary in a Cabinet reshuffle following the resignation of Defence Secretary Dr. Liam Fox. She replaces Phil Hammond who becomes the new Defence Secretary.

She becomes the fifth female member of the Cabinet. Previously she had been Economic Secretary to the Treasury after the Coalition came to power.

Campaigners against excessive noise from Heathrow Airport will be optimistic that her appointment will be beneficial to their cause as Justine Greening has been a vocal supporter.

She is also a regular commuter on the District Line and has campaigned for a better service on the Wimbledon branch.

Her first major challenge is likely to be HS2 - the high-speed rail system which is encountering stiff opposition from the back benches.

She contributes a regular column on constituency matters to this site.
