Wandsworth New Stagers Present....

The Heiress by Ruth and Augustus Goetz

This adaptation of Washington Square by Henry James is set in mid 19th century New York and examines what happens when a plain young woman finds herself caught between her steely, grief-stricken father and a mysterious, handsome suitor.

The Heiress enjoyed huge success in 1949 as a film directed by William Wyler and it has just completed a Broadway run that won mixed reviews and capacity audiences for Jessica Chastain and Dan Stevens.

Catherine Sloper is called upon to navigate the terrain of love and regret, desire and duty, a chance for happiness and the burden of fortune…as only an heiress can.  The Heiress is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French Ltd.
