2,000 New Affordable Homes For Wandsworth

With the majority being built in Nine Elms

New developments across Battersea are now on course to provide around 2,000 affordable homes for local people.

The majority of Battersea’s new affordable properties will be built in the Nine Elms regeneration area (see map) where every residential scheme will include housing for Wandsworth residents to buy or rent at a reduced cost.

The council has also secured more than £51million in off-site affordable housing payments from Nine Elms developments. This will be spent on additional affordable housing schemes in the local area.

Ravi Govindia, leader of Wandsworth Council, said: "We are now on course to deliver around 2,000 affordable homes in a part of central London where property prices have spiralled beyond the reach of ordinary hardworking families.

Mr Govindia also pointed out that the redevelopment of Nine Elms will also generate around £1billion for vital new community infrastructure in this part of the borough such as a primary school, tube stations, health centres, a new cycling network and parks. All of which is being delivered without an Olympics style cash injection from the taxpayer.”
