More Wandsworth Primary School Places Planned

Council considers expanding six local schools

As the number of children in Wandsworth continues to rise the council is consulting on plans to expand six local primary schools.

The proposal is to increase the capacity of Riversdale, West Hill, Hillbrook, Smallwood, Swaffield, and Penwortham Primary Schools by 210 pupils each – a total of 1260 new places.
If the schemes go ahead each school would take in an additional 30-pupil reception class from September 2012. The school rolls would then rise gradually each year until all seven year groups include an extra class.
The schools earmarked for expansion are located in areas where demand for places is projected to outpace the existing supply.

Wandsworth Council’s schools spokesman Cllr Kathy Tracey said:
“Wandsworth is an extremely popular place to bring up children and the demands on our school system continue to rise. These plans are the latest phase of our primary school investment programme which is increasing capacity where it is needed most.
“Our aim is to give parents as much choice as possible when it comes to selecting a school for their children.”
