Stabbing on Tooting Bec Common

"This was a completely unprovoked and random attack"

Detectives from Wandsworth CID are appealing for information and witnesses following an incident on Tooting Bec Common which left a 41-year-old man with stab injuries.

On Sunday 12th October at approximately 16:45hrs, the victim was sitting on a bench inside the common when three men cycled behind him and one of them (suspect 1) shouted at him as they rode past.

The victim approached the suspect who had shouted at him at which point a second man (suspect 2) approached the victim and stabbed him.

All three suspects then cycled off towards Elmbourne Road.

A number of people came to the victim's aid and he was taken to a west London hospital where he was treated and later discharged.

The suspects are described as:

  • Suspect 1. Black, 18 - 19 years-old, approximately 5ft 10ins tall, skinny build. He had a cornrow hairstyle and was wearing a long racing green quilt jacket, dark jeans and trainers. He was riding a matt grey mountain bike.
  • Suspect 2. White, 17 - 18 years-old, approximately 5ft 8ins tall. He had blonde hair and was wearing a light grey hoody and a grey jacket
  • Suspect 3. Light skinned black, approximately 5ft 6ins tall, skinny build.

Detective Constable Marie Harrild from Wandsworth CID said: "This was a completely unprovoked and random attack on a man quietly sitting on a bench.

“Having looked at the hospital report following his treatment, it is sheer luck that the victim is with us today. The knife just missed a major artery which could have lead to him bleeding to death.

“A number of people came to assist the victim following the incident and I am appealing to them, and anyone who knows anything about the attack, to come forward and tell us what happened. We need to catch these dangerous individuals"

Anyone with any information are asked to contact DC Constable Marie Harrild on 0203 276 2589 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
