Wandsworth Town Post Office Closes

And is looking for a new town centre site

Wandsworth Crown Post Office, in Arndale Walk, closes today (July 25th) and the company has announced its services will be run from two temporary sites from Monday (July 29th) while it finds a permanent base in the town centre area.

The council has offered to help Post Office Ltd with its efforts to identify new, larger premises to ensure that Wandsworth residents are not denied access to the full range of services currently available for any longer than is necessary.

The two alternative offices that the company will be based out of in the meantime are 119 Wandsworth High Street and unit 124 North Mall, Southside - and they will be known as Wandsworth High Street Post Office and Wandsworth Southside Post Office.

Post Office Ltd has said that space restrictions in the temporary sites mean it will not be able to install an ATM, Post and Go, AEI machine to carry out DVLA photocard renewal transactions or provide a Financial Services desk.

It has confirmed there will be seven serving positions across these two sites, and stated that the majority of services will continue to be available.

Councillor James Cousins, the council's executive member for economic development and business partnerships, said: "This Post Office is a vital resource for many of the town's residents and businesses, and it is crucial that a larger permanent site is identified so the services not offered in the temporary offices can be brought back and normal service can resume."

The Wandsworth Crown Post Office branch has closed to enable the redevelopment of Arndale Walk.

Post Office Ltd has put up notices in the branch notifying customers of the changes, apologising for any inconvenience caused, and detailing nearby, alternative branches. Once suitable premises have been found in the area, it will hold a public consultation over the proposed site.
