Moorish Menu For £10

2 course lunch for a tenner makes for a happy purse and happy tummy

On the hoof in the Tonsleys with a friend and we realised it was time to eat - we came across doukan - it is on Old York Road, the up beat shopping strip to your right as you come out of Wandsworth Town station. This area is called "The Tonsleys" and is a prime example of how crazy London real estate can be - it is only a few blocks but house prices here are nuts.

Doukan gave a warm welcome and is obviously popular with locals as busy - but not heaving. The staff attentive and the service efficient.

The two of us opted for the 2 courses for a tenner - which is a great price when you think of the property prices I have already referred to! I opted for the Lentil and Olive Oil soup served with lemon chunk to squeeze over and a lovely Moroccan bread for dunking. My friend chose the roast tomato brushetta served with coriander and generous servings of feta pesto. Both portions were generous and I could have stopped with just my soup!

The mains quickly arrived, with the tagine of the day already sold out, I had plumped for the slow roasted lamb (eight hours) which fell apart and melted in the mouth served with a simple mixed salad and saffron rice, Jo meanwhile had the grilled chicken served with the rice and salad, which was served on a wooden board. Both dishes were tender and tasty and again generous portions.

No desserts for us just a simple coffee which would probably be my only quibble as I do like my coffee strong and these large cups were rather weaker than I would choose - certainly not enough to put me off going back!

The set menu changes every Tuesday (they are closed on Mondays). It offers a choice of three starters and three mains courses. Iif you are wanting great flavours and generous portions I recommend you pop in next time you are passing!
