Putney MP Fleur Anderson says that she has been informed that a permanent Covid-19 centre is to be set up in the borough.

Up to now there has only been a pop-up centre at Wandsworth Town Hall, offering tests every few days and there have been reports of local residents and schools being unable to access tests.

Ms Anderson said, "I was told that a site was authorised today and I welcome this. We’ve only had a pop-up temporary site for the whole of Wandsworth for too long. Roehampton is one of only three universities in the country that doesn’t have a testing site on or near campus.

"Too many parents have contacted me to say that children are missing school because they can’t get a test."

She has not yet been told of when and where the centre will open but claimed credit for the move on the lobbying done by herself and her fellow MPs in the borough, Rosena Allin-Khan and Marsha de Cordova.

She added, “I’m glad the Government have listened to the campaign by the three Wandsworth MPs. As we face going into more restrictions, it will be reassuring, and life-saving, to know that we can get a test nearby if we need it. “

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.
