Two local MPS have cycled 55 miles in temperatures of over 30 degrees to raise money for a local hospital charity.

Fleur Anderson MP for Putney and Rosena Allin-Khan MP for Tooting completed the 55 cycle from London to Brighton cycle this Saturday (10 September).

Between them they had received sponsorship of over £3,000 for St George’s Hospital Children's Care.

The appeal is to help transform Children’s Services and the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the hospital and aims to raise £5 million by 2024.

The London to Brighton cycle saw thousands of participants cycle 55 miles, either as part of fundraising teams or individually. The ride was part of the Time for a Change £5 million children’s appeal run by St George’s Hospital Charity.

The MPs joined the team of 86 porters, surgeons, doctors and nurses as Team St George’s. They have so far raised over £30,000 and you can still donate to the Bike Ride fundraiser here.

Ms Anderson said,“Cycling 55 miles in the heat – up and down all of those hills – was hard work but made infinitely easier in the knowledge that we were raising thousands of pounds for our local Children’s Services. I visited the Children’s Wards that we are raising money for last week and was struck by the excellent care that the staff provide, but the need for more beds and better facilities. There is no staff changing room for 80 nurses.

“We’re so thankful to all the generous people who have donated to support our fundraising.

“Please don’t hesitate to donate to this extremely important fundraiser. The staff in these wards saved my nephew’s life 25 years ago and we’re always grateful. Anyone who has looked after an unwell child will know the difference that the excellent care provided by St George’s makes – the hospital is the place that parents rely on when the worst happens to their children. Our children and their families deserve the best environment to match that care and support. Please do donate via our fundraising page on JustGiving.”
