Wandsworth has been recognised as one of the leading boroughs in England for the achievements of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), according to provisional 2025 Key Stage 4 data.

The figures show that both pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and those receiving SEN support achieved outcomes significantly above the national average.

  • Attainment 8: Wandsworth’s average score for SEN support pupils was 43.5, the sixth highest in England and around a full grade higher than the national average.
  • Progress 8: Based on 2024 data, the borough ranked third nationally for SEN support pupils.
  • English and maths: More than 57% of SEN support pupils achieved a grade 4 or above in both subjects, placing Wandsworth eighth in the country. For EHCP pupils, the proportion achieving this benchmark rose by 7% compared to last year, securing a place in the top quartile of local authorities.
  • EBacc: 22% of SEN support pupils achieved a grade 4 or above across the full English Baccalaureate, the third highest rate in England.
  • Post-16 destinations: 92% of EHCP pupils remained in education, employment or training after Key Stage 4, five percentage points higher than the national average.

Cllr Judi Gasser, Cabinet Member for Children, said, “These fantastic results are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our pupils, their families, and our schools. They also show that Wandsworth’s inclusive approach and strong partnerships are making a real difference to the lives of children and young people with SEND.”

The council highlighted initiatives such as Get, Set, Go!, which helps prepare young people for life beyond secondary school, and the opening of the new Paddock School, which expands specialist provision locally.

The results reflect Wandsworth’s wider SEND Strategy, which focuses on inclusion, early intervention, and ensuring every young person can achieve their goals. It also sits within the borough’s broader investment in education and children’s services, aimed at raising standards across all schools.

Nationally, outcomes for SEND pupils remain below those of their peers, with many local authorities struggling to close the gap.
