Police in Wandsworth have issued reassurance to the public following an assault and robbery in which a child was the victim.

The incident took place at the Southside Shopping Centre on 18 January and video footage of the assault was widely circulated on social media against police advice.

Generally the police discourage the sharing of footage of alleged crimes on the internet as this may interfere with their investigation and complicate prosecutions.

A 17-year-old was arrested on 25 February and charged with robbery. They are due in court at a later date. Due to their age, they have not been named.

The police believe that this crime was an isolated incident but that the public may see more officers from local teams in the area in the coming month due to increased patrols. You are encouraged to talk to officers if you have any concerns.

The police say, “We are working closely with local businesses and security to prevent crime.”
