police appeal for witnesses following vicious attack on Chatham Road

A local traffic warden has been left in a critical condition after being attacked while on duty. At approxiamtely 3.00pm on the 27th Junepolice were called to reports of an assault outside the Gardeners Arms pub in Chatham Rd, SW11, opposite the Eagle Ale House.

On arrival, the police found a man in his late 30s suffering serious head injuries. He was taken by air ambulance to a London hospital where his condition is understood to be serious but stable.

It is believed that possibly two men remonstrated with the parking attendant, who had been issuing tickets in the street. The victim had a glass of beer thrown into his face (the liquid not the actual glass) and was kicked, and was struck on the head with a crash helmet. The suspects then made off on a motorcycle.

At approximately 20.00hrs this evening a man believed to be in his early 20s attended a south London police station and was arrested in connection with the investigation.
