Riverside Radio is offering the gift of DAB digital sets
With most people still staying at home during the lockdown, local radio station Riverside Radio is reporting a big increase in people tuning in.
Over the past few months, alongside the normal schedule of news and local information, Riverside Radio has broadcast a cancelled youth community showcase concert which should have been staged at The Clapham Grand, hour long takeover shows for local up and coming artists to highlight their music, and performances from the Wandsworth Arts Fringe which was forced to move online.
Now the station - which is a not-for-profit voluntary led community radio service - has launched a special project in partnership with The Radio Hub and the National Lottery Community Fund to help vulnerable local residents across South West London.
Riverside Radio will be awarding FREE DAB DIGITAL RADIOS to anyone who is isolated or feels lonely during the pandemic.
Station Director, Jason Rosam, said: “Riverside Radio’s presenters have become a friend to so many more listeners in south west London over the last two months. In these tough times I’m delighted to be able to offer the gift of a radio set to some in our south west London community who will be feeling lonely during all of this.
“I would like to thank The Radio Hub which has been a fantastic networking organisation for our station who’ve made this project possible along with the National Lottery Community Fund and I hope we’ll be welcoming more friends to our community radio station very soon.”
Currently Riverside Radio can only be heard online, on smart speakers and mobile phones, however Mr Rosam is promising very exciting news which he’ll be able to share in a few weeks’ time which should reveal plans for the local radio station to be heard on easy to reach platforms.
Riverside Radio has a limited supply of radios to give away and if you think you know someone in Richmond, Wandsworth, Merton or Lambeth who could do with some extra company then please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Riverside Radio was set up in 2013 as Wandsworth Radio and launched on air in January 2015. Since then, hundreds of volunteers have become presenters, newsreaders, reporters, production staff and many have used skills learned at Riverside Radio to go onto employment at the BBC and various commercial radio stations.
