Teixeira Hambro accuses Justine Greening of subverting "the will of the British people"
It has been announced that Teixeira Hambro will stand as the Brexit Party’s prospective parliamentary candidate for the constituency of Putney.
Teixeira (pronounced “Tay-shay-raâ€) has been a business woman and is a home-maker, resident in London since 1975. She will contest the Putney, Roehampton and Southfields constituency in the next general election. Teixeira said: "I have been selected as The Brexit Party Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Putney. I welcome the fact Justine Greening has announced she will not be standing to represent the people of Putney again. She has worked to subvert the will of the British people by blocking a clean-break Brexit.
"I hope the Conservative Party selects a new candidate who believes in Britain's bright future after Brexit. However, I will be here to offer a democratic alternative that is loyal to the referendum result delivered more than three years ago and I will hold the other candidate's feet to the fire.
said the Tories were becoming 'the Brexit party' as if
this is a bad thing. This is an insult to Brexiteers in
Putney and the 17.4 million people who voted for Brexit,
who I intend to stand up for at the next general election,
which I welcome as soon as possible."
“I am not a politician. I am simply a mother and homemaker with a wide range of experience who wishes to help bring honesty and common sense to politics.
“In spite of manifesto commitments and votes to leave the EU, the Tory government and the other major parties in the Westminster Parliament have proved themselves unwilling to implement the UK electorate’s sovereign democratic vote.
“Finding ways NOT to achieve Brexit has absorbed parliamentary attention to the exclusion of other important business. This betrayal of UK democracy is compounded by the blatant remainer bias of the BBC, the civil service and the House of Lords, all of which have thereby shown themselves in need of urgent reform.
“I have lived
under dictatorship in Africa and have been a refugee. I
cherish the democratic freedom of the UK, my beloved
adopted home. The prospect of ever-closer union in an
autocratic EU appals me.
"I shall listen, learn and devote my full attention to resolving the local issues affecting the voters of Putney. I know that many of them voted to remain but that was over 3 years ago and we can see now how the EU seeks to shackle us. The Brexit Party is pledged to restore the UK’s freedom, fully and unconditionally.â€
selection was welcomed by the Brexit Party London
constituency MEPs Ben Habib and Lance Forman. Ben Habib
“I strongly endorse the choice of Teixeira as the Brexit Party candidate for Putney. She brings a fresh voice from outside the parliamentary class which has failed us. She has experience of living under a colonial dictatorship, doing business and raising children. She values the tolerance, freedom and sovereignty of the British people.â€
Lance Forman said:
“It is great to see Teixeira chosen to contest Putney for
the Brexit Party. Unlike the incumbent, Teixeira considers
it the duty of Parliament to honour the Referendum
decision. She has all the values, energy and enthusiasm
needed to overturn the small Conservative majority (just
1,554 votes) and be an excellent MPâ€.
Richard Tice, Brexit Party Chairman said: “The Brexit Party stands ready to fight a general election with a full slate of candidates in all the UK’s 650 constituencies. We will take on the major parties, which have failed the British people time and time again.
“The vast majority of our candidates are entering politics for the first time and they come from all walks of life, backgrounds, races and religions. Their greatest strength is that they are not professional politicians, but are competent individuals, connected to their local areas and issues they seek to represent. They have achieved great things in their professional or personal life, from entrepreneurs, small business owners and economists – to teachers, academics, forklift driver and bankers. But we all share a commitment to deliver Brexit, defend democracy and change politics for good.â€
