Man Arrested In Relation To Malachi Brooks Murder

23-year-old has now been bailed

A fourth person arrested in connection with the murder of Malachi Brooks in Surrey Lane in March 2017 has been arrested and subsequently bailed.

The 23-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Saturday 27 January on suspicion of arson and perverting the course of justice.

He was taken to a south London police station and has now been bailed to a date in late January.

Two men have previously been charged with offences connected to Malachi's murder. Joel Preddie, 20, of Mitcham was charged in September last year with arson. Abdul Popatpotra, 26, of Totterdown Street in Tooting was charged on the same day with arson and perverting the course of justice.

Both are due to stand trial at a Crown Court yet to be confirmed, on Monday 26 February 2018.

Malachi, 31, was fatally stabbed in Surrey Lane in the early hours of Tuesday 28 March 2017.

Police and the London Ambulance Service were called at around 1am and found Mr Brooks suffering stab injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene just before 2am.

A post-mortem examination took pace later that day and gave the cause of death as a stab wound to the heart.
